Sustainability

As we approach the ISTH 2026 Congress, the ISTH and our partners are committed to acting sustainability and environmentally responsible in as many ways as possible. To achieve this, the Society has implemented several actions to reduce its environmental impact. See a few of the initiatives below.

ISTH & Partners Sustainability Initiatives:

  • Carbon offsetting: The ISTH is excited to offer carbon offsetting services in partnership with Terrapass, an organization that believes that by coming together with a goal to address our individual carbon footprints, we can collectively reduce global emissions and create a greener world. Please use their calculator to estimate your carbon footprint in traveling to the ISTH 2026 Congress, and then make the appropriate donation to help neutralize your impact on the climate. Calculate and contribute here.

  • Removal of plastic badge holders: Since 2023, the ISTH Congress no longer uses plastic badge holders, eliminating a significant source of waste.

  • Paperless practices: The ISTH no longer prints an abstract book, state-of-the-art book, extended program book or daily newspaper. These can now all be found online. In addition, we no longer allow paper inserts from supporters to be distributed at registration. Combined, these actions save at least 15 million pages of paper, or approximately 1,500 trees.

  • Eliminating Congress bags: The ISTH is going bag-free at registration to create a more sustainable and seamless Congress experience. The ISTH is encouraging attendees to reuse their past Congress bags. Stop by the ISTH Hub and show your vintage ISTH bags for an opportunity to be entered to win one of three free ISTH memberships.

  • Water Stations: Water stations are available to refill water bottles in the Exhibition Hall.

Paris Expo Porte de Versailles Initiatives:

Lowering their carbon footprint by:

  • Electricity supply certified as 100% renewable across all our sites,
